So the interviews that I thought went so well... apparently didn't. They didn't offer me the job. I'm feeling a little crushed.

People wondering about a recession? If we're in one? If it takes me over six months to find a job, including a job as a goddam secretary? We're in a fucking recession.

I am so frustrated and I'm flaring. The article in the NYTs yesterday about how many doctors believe fibromyalgia is imaginary did not improve my mood.
Mood:: bitter and sore

Ouch. I'm so sorry. I completely understand the anger, frustration, pain, depression, that entire nasty combination of emotion that just gnaws at you, and makes you feel completely helpless and not in control of your own life.

I wish I had some words of wisdom or comfort, but unfortunately I don't. It just plain sucks. I don't even know how I got through it when I was in the same boat.

Take care though, and know I wish you the best.

I think my grad degree is hurting me when I interview for jobs that are unrelated. It is too apparent that I just need a job to get my on me feet, and that I am hoping to be successful in a different arena.

OH. YEAH. TAKE THAT OFF YOUR RESUME.

I don't even MENTION it for the 'entry level' caliber jobs.

But then it looks like I have been unemployed for the last 2.5 years. EEK!

I think my MFA makes me look like I am passing through until I get my book deal. LOLOLOLOL. At this rate I will never get a book deal because I can't finish anything.

Is it too early in the day for a glass of wine?

Someone with a lot of interviewing and hiring experience once told me that if you made it to the final round but didn't get the job it was rarely something that you did. It was likely because someone else had a certain experience or something particular. So you can feel bad about not getting the job - and I am sorry to hear that - but don't feel bad about you.

We are definitely in a recession. You will find a job though. I'm sorry you have to go through this, I know how hard it is. :(

I know YOU know. :(

My anxiety has been flaring along with the fibro. I just got my insurance.

Ooops. posted half a comment. My insurance coverage for my meds finally came through. And although CVS is the sixth level of purgatory--I know can go back on my meds.

Job searching is miserable. It is not as bad as kidney stones, but really not fun. And thank you! I hope so too, so I can go back to whining about my novel. :D

Oh my god, that article made me livid. A friend emailed it to me.

OF COURSE WE'RE ALL WHINY WOMEN WHO CAN'T DEAL WITH EVERYDAY ACHES AND PAINS. Come on, NYT, I thought you were a reliable news source.

based on what i've read about fibromyalgia, it is a syndrome rather than a disease, that is, a group of symptoms that no one can quite figure out. the pain is real but might stem from any number of sources and fibromyalgia means "we don't know and very few scientific researchers want to waste their time researching something that affects primarily women, as it is much easier to continue treating them as smaller versions of men." a doctor told my mom she had fibromyalgia when she was having horrendous inexplicable pain in her jaw and it turned out to be uh, a root canal.

not to presume i know more about it than you. this is just something i've deduced from reading a bit.

OMG your poor mom! Yeah I had never heard of fibro until last March when the doctor told me she thought that was what was wrong with me. Another doctor also said he thought so, and a specialist confirmed it with her third opinion. I have pain in my head, neck, jaw, shoulders, back, hips and knees. It is a total field day for pain in my body. Eh. I also have arthritis and IBS. The specialist just ran a huge battery of tests and if anything else is wrong it will be on top of the Fibro. SO MUCH FUN!

Do you think the MFA is making us unemployable? I'm starting to fear that it is.

Ummm slightly because every interview I go to they're like, "Oh but you want to be a writer, right?" Well, yes, but that doesn't generate income for a while, if ever, so for now, I'd like to work for your company / non-profit / publication / university...

Temping as an editorial asst at an arts non-profit for now... health insurance would be fun but I won't push it.

I have the same issue. And there are just very few jobs in publishing in the Boston area. I just had another interview process go to the third interview and then they chose someone else. AGAIN.

I'm covered on the health insurance, but that is about all I've got at this point.

If I had a kid and no husband I could pretend I was JKR sitting in a cafe and writing... But we eat too well and my cat is really nothing like a baby. :/

I will continue to hope.

I'm so sorry, Katie. I don't have any idea why or what happened, and no informal conversation with K in which to find out until we get to Dallas on the 4th. This sucks.

And yes, we are definitely in a recession. All I'm hoping for is that it stays "recession" and doesn't become "depression."

Honestly, I think my MFA marks me as someone short term. Even if I never make another dime writing, it makes me look like I am headed in another direction. That is my take on it, anyway. *sigh*
