It has been two months since I graduated with this expensive and useless MFA in writing and guess how much I have written? ZERO. Zilch. Nil. The empty set. Nothing. And I've been feeling increasingly panicky about it. Being sick has made it really hard to think so I probably shouldn't beat myself up to badly. But I know if I don't beat myself up a little I may be sitting on a second failed novel, several half written screenplays, a short story on the verge of publication, half a dozen unhatched ideas, and a YA novel gestating somewhere in my hindbrain, or brain stem.
I'm thinking about writing some fanfic just to grease the wheels. A novella length post war piece in which I explore post-traumatic stress and grief again. Go figure.
But I just got an email. I've been accepted to write a piece for a charity project for the National Braille Foundation. My friend who is a photographer took these incredible photographs. I will be assigned a photo and will write a short piece. It will be printed in braille on the photograph and then displayed, and eventually auctioned off. I will get a copy of our collaboration to keep. I'm actually very excited about this. And it is very cool to be excited about writing again.
copperbadge I think talking to you helped me here, so thanks, kid.
