note: I declare this post about shoes to be safe for [livejournal.com profile] piperki to read without vomiting. She is a delicate flower about lower extremities, and while I don't get it, I have enough of my own weird trip wires to respect a fellow nutball when I see one. Especially because I love her like whoa.

I used to have a shoe thing. Not like Sex and the City (a show I've always loathed) but my own shoe thing--especially for boots. I have a pair of government issue Jump boots, i.e. combat boots with zippers up the sides that I bought in 1985. My mother agreed to bury me in them if I died before I was 20. We'd just been to my best friend's funeral and she was buried in a sort of white Gunne Sax dress she would have set on fire if she could have seen it. My mother promised she'd have the pink in my hair redyed and she'd bury me in my favorite things. She may have been a grade A loon, but she could also be completely awesome like that.

I also had a pair of electric blue suede docs that I adored. And a pair of knee high black witch boots with like 80 zillion buckles. They were wicked and pointy. And I had several pairs of insane Fluevogs--my favorite being a pair of green suede oxfords that made me tall, tall, tall. I also had a pair of knee high Go Go boots that were pink suede, which I found brand new at the Salvation Army in Danbury, CT while looking for items for my brother's Halloween costume. I had a funny pair of green velvet shoes I bought in Paris--like something Louis XIV would have worn. I'm forgetting all sorts of other shoes.

After I finished college and got depressed--I gave up caring what the hell I had on more or less so long as it was comfortable. I've had a pair of orange and blue pumas I've been wearing for years and they are beyond shot. I wanted to replace them with something I could wear, especially in the summer.

And so these are coming to me and they are so cute. And I had forgotten this feeling about caring what the hell I have on my feet--even though my style is now very boring compared to what it once was. But I really wouldn't want to draw so much attention. I prefer to fade into the crowd these days.

This site could eat my brain the way #bash.org once did.
