What makes you unable to put a book down? What causes you to stay up reading even though you have to go to school/work in the morning and you know you're going to be exhausted? Any examples of books you have not been able to put down would be wonderful too...

I think it must be a combination of pacing, plot, and character. I don't know. I seem to have a pacing issue and I'm going a little bit bonkers.

Heard from agent. Pacing is still an issue. I feel like I am never going to get this right--except of course I will. It's OK if it takes me ten drafts. It's OK. Shower. Coffee. Work. Repeat.

Crazy old math guy came into the coffee shop and sat down with me. He tried to stare holes through my head while I kept writing. I refused to give him an opening because he won't just talk for five minutes. He'll chatter at me for an hour or more. Then he said, "You look like you're trying to think of what to say in reply to the kidnappers."

I said, no. I've just been having a hard time working (especially when someone is trying to use his x-ray vision on my skull.) He asked me if taking a break for an hour and coming back to it is helpful. I said no.

Then he said, "Do you think God invented writing as a punishment?"

Still not as passive aggressive as the time he offered to pour water in my laptop "to help."
