My best friend in high school after we first moved to Connecticut was also called Katie. She lived in an old old rectory next to a cemetery in one of the most rural parts of the state. We used to take a Ouija board out there at night and set it on one of the flat graves and see who wanted to talk to us. I think a couple of "spirits" popped up to tell us how they died and who they missed. We used to freak ourselves out. It was awesome. She's buried in that cemetery now. She died when we were 17 in a car accident. I still miss her.

I think I also had sex in that cemetery once with this guy who used to send me letters that he had burned hearts into with cigarettes.

I originally wanted to have my fifth draft drafted by August 31. Then I shifted the date to October 31. And I blew both those deadlines. We didn't know my anemia was so very very bad until two weeks ago and I've been working as hard as I've been capable of under the circumstances. But I really want to finish this thing sooner rather than later. I think I finally see how to fix the things I've been unhappy about in the first 115 pages. I wanted it to be more like 80-90 pages for one thing and I also was having a problem with two characters cooperating--because they shouldn't be. So they won't. Which sounds very easy when I put it that way, but it took me ages to see it.

So I'd like to have a draft I can send to readers by Nov. 30. It's not a matter of writing every day or word counts--it's a matter of me getting the fifth draft done the way it needs to be. Though I do have another 30k-40k words to write since most of this draft is being written from scratch to accommodate the double POV and because I have so much clarity now about the motivations of all the characters.

I spent hours today poking around looking for continuity problems with two major changes I made in early chapters. And tomorrow we have to drive to Providence because my cousin cut the tendon in his thumb with a box cutter and he has to have surgery and we're taking care of him. He's a wee freshman and his parents live in Paris. So I don't expect to get a lot done tomorrow. *sigh*

It's amazing how crappy I feel after blowing these deadlines--all excuses aside. :/
