One of my favorite things to have at Burdick's are the French macarons:

I've never made them and I really want to. I know how to make and pipe meringues and have a deft hand with butter cream so I should be able to make some to give to local friends and family. I'm just not sure which recipes I'll like. I'm pretty sure
strange_selkie knows all about this and so may other bakers around here. halp?
I'm going to take a whack at
paper_tzipporah's mom's friend's rugelach recipe this evening to package and mail to David's grandmother and mother for Hannukah. I always feel a little bad cutting out a few gingerbread or whatever Christmas cookie I'm making with a star of David cutter and not just making them something special.
We bought a present for a charity gift drive David's office coordinates and it's huge and I'm suppose to put it in a gift bag. Except I have no idea where to find one large enough. Seriously I need like a Bloomingdale's big brown bag and I think that might even be too small.
David keeps saying he wants me to knit him a scarf for Christmas. Last year whenever I knitted my hands cramped up and I eventually just gave up. But I have several big plastic bins full of unknit wool and odd bags stowed all over the apartment with random yarn and a few failed knitting projects I haven't had the heart to rip out. For years I could not read patterns and just made up my own. Sometimes that works and sometimes its a desperate failure. I've since learned to read patterns and my stepmother gave me a giant Vogue reference book so I can always look stuff up. Plus--yeah--you can google it. I know.
Usually I start planning all this stuff in November and baking right after Thanksgiving. I just haven't been in the mood. But I think I can manage a few batches of macarons and a scarf.
I'm trying to get into the holiday spirit. (lol I typed spirits.)
