Building dude brought an amazing wet vac over and is sucking the water out of the carpets and vacuuming up the sludge. One of our breakers won't turn back on so we're out some electricity, but not all. Really, we're very lucky. I know flooding could be much much worse and this was pretty minor--even though it was gross and upsetting.
You guys are wonderful. Thank you for helping me calm down when I was all alone. David is home now and we managed to get something to eat. Most of the neighborhood seems to have suffered some flooding so this may be a city wide problem. We have terrible problems with clogged storm drains here. But also the rain was falling at a torrential rate and some streets were so heavily flooded that cars couldn't drive through them.
It's still not clear whether or not we'll need to find some place else to stay tonight, but I hope not because Bertie hates to travel. And I'm not sure where we'd take him either. There is nothing much I can do right now except wait for the wet vaccing to stop and the carpet guy to get here.
