I want to send my friend and his fiancé a couple of poems and let them choose one for me to read. I like the science one I posted yesterday, but I wanted to write something more general. I started and gave up on any number of little doggerels, but then came up with this spectacular piece of mediocrity:
When my husband and I were first dating
he said he saw no point in saying
I love you
because it's just something people say
like, have a nice day.
I argued that you can say it and mean it
it doesn't have to wear away with use.
I make sure I can feel it tightening
the valves in my heart
so that my love grows stronger
every time I say I love you.
