We spent Christmas Eve at the hospice center. It was good, but hard. Toward the end I developed an enormous headache. Since I have a tendency to psychosomaticize my emotions, that was not a surprise. David's brother told us he loved us and was very sweet. He was having trouble speaking partly from the tumor and partly from the morphine. My heart just aches for his wife and for David's step dad.
Mostly I am just feeling very lucky to have the family that I have and very lucky in most ways. I've spent a lot of the last day or so just appreciating what I have.
We slept in a bit this morning and then did presents and stockings. David actually remembered which chocolates are my favorites and put them in my stocking. He bought me bath bombs from LUSH and OMG tickets to see The Nutcracker on New Year's Eve!! We opted to do the fancy breakfast (smoked salmon eggs benedict) tomorrow because we slept in rather late. I hurriedly made a batch of polenta and some tomato sauce and packed all the groceries up and we went over to my in-laws. I taught David's step-mom how to roast a chicken, make cookies in her food processor, how to roast beets, make potatoes au gratin dauphinois, and how to braise Brussles sprouts. She did really well and I think he cooking confidence is improving.
We just got home and I feel like I've been hit by a freight train, but I'm too full to go to sleep. I think I'm going to knit and watch Doctor Who or something. David is already asleep.
I want to read Yuletide stories, but my brain is so sparkless right now. Tomorrow we have nothing to do, but watch it snow and lie about. I plan to knit and read all day. And make chicken soup with the carcass I brought home.
Someone wrote me Kenzi/Liam Lost Girl fic!!! <3 I am so excited about that.
If you celebrate--Happy Christmas loves. If not I hope you had a good day too!
