I can't stop checking my email. I know I didn't make the next cut of the Amazon novel thingy, but I can't stop myself. Someone make me sit on my hands!

Or better yet--distract me somehow? PLEASE? *MAKES PITIFUL FACE*

I'm in shock. I made the quarter final.

That last post was a little incoherent and at least one person was confused about what exactly I'd won.

I entered the last completed draft of the young adult fantasy novel (based on the myth of Medusa) into the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Contest. I made the first cut and today I found out I made the quarter final, which means I am in the top 250 entries for the YA award. The grand prize is a publishing contract with Penguin Books and $15k.

So basically I have won a manuscript review from Publishers Weekly, a subscription to Publishers Weekly (snore) and a chance to make the Top 50. I'll find out on April 24th about that and will again be shocked if I make it. Not because I don't believe in myself, but because I've already moved on from that draft to a new one, which I suspect will be much, much stronger.

Mostly posting this here so I can find them easily. I do not expect people to want to read these. :D

There are reviews of my excerpt from Amazon "expert editors."

Review #1

What is the strongest aspect of this excerpt?

The entire concept of this excerpt is extremely compelling. I like the myth of Medusa, and to experience a modern day story involving the offspring of Medusa as well as some other mythical creatures in society, would be a great read. the main character was interesting and the writing enjoyable. I also like the character of Alex, his character seems full of potential.
