Yes.

6. Five fandom memories

5. Offering to beta for the first time, before I had ever tried to write fanfic myself. For [livejournal.com profile] unanon
4. Meeting [livejournal.com profile] heidi8 and Carole, and Gwen in Florida when planning for Nimbus
3. Meeting [livejournal.com profile] praetorianguard in Boston on a cold day and having an obscene lunch.
2. Meeting [livejournal.com profile] tropes for tea in Harvard Square.
1. Book club meetings with [livejournal.com profile] irinaauthor and [livejournal.com profile] elements.

There are so many memories missing from that list. :( Because dude, [livejournal.com profile] piperki isn't even mentioned! (Although I don't consider her reading at my wedding a fandom memory!) *squishes her* And I am leaving out the BAD FANDOM memories and the wank because let's not remember that.

7. Who was your first fandom friend?
[livejournal.com profile] unanon! I offered to beta a Sibyl story that I don't think she ever posted, so tells you what kind of beta I must be! :D

8. Who (canon character) would you ship St. Mags (you can replace St. Mags with a person of your choice) with at moonette’s parties?
Oh, in crazyland? I always ship Vlad/Wendy!! OMG OTP!!!!! (I just made that up.)

9. Craziest theory you ever heard.
Lily's horcrux (looks at [livejournal.com profile] unanon,) that Harry is a Horcrux, and that Ron is Dumbledore

10. Your favorite crack!theory.
That Harry is really scizophrenic and none of Hogwarts is real, which [livejournal.com profile] marksykins wrote as a riff on an episode of Buffy.

HaHa! You know I totally shelved that Sibyll story with the vague idea that I'd dust it off for personal crackfic pleasure AFTER all of canon was released. It's basically the story that convinced me for MANY years that I wasn't going to even attempt longer fic for incomplete canon. Hee.

My Horcrux!Lily was the craziest theory?!! Whee!!!!!!!!!!!

Omg I forgot Schizophrenic Harry Theory! *loves*

I just love that we delurked at the same time and became each other's first Potterdom friend! *snuggles all over* MY KATIE!

Yes, I had decided to delurk and to try betaing and there you were. And thank goodness! <3's you.

That Lily Horcrux thing was cracky! Though you just told me and did not devote a whole website to it like the Ron is Dumbledore theory.

I'm so GLAD! No one else responded to my wordy beta-request and suddenly THERE YOU WERE!

And then I persuaded you to come to the LJ side of the force. YAY! *smothers*

You know, I remember reading that Ron = Dumbledore site; I thought it was interesting (not as interesting or as plausible as EVIL!Minerva though) and it doesn't stick in my mind as crack. Hee.

Oooh! I could totally have done a website for Horcrux!Lily! Woe for missed opportunities to spread the infamous CRACK!

That Ron = Dumbledore always = crack to me. It was interesting but not in anyway plausible to me. :D

I don't think I needed a lot of persuading to come to lj. I do remember briefly flirting with deadjournal and realizing I was not goth enough to be there.

Heh...I was never goth enough for Deadjournal. Also? I think it is a genetic impossibility for me to successfully navigate that site. I can't SEE anything.

Of course, I'm guilty of the purple on black web design myself back when I tinkered with a Robotech website, but duuuude. Deadjournal.

posted by [identity profile] imaginarycircus.livejournal.com at 07:06pm on 18/07/2007
:D :D YEah, my deadjournal was all pastels and every other one was black bg with purple, white, or grey text and all really hard to read.

Can you post links to the cracky theories (other than Ron=Dumbledore, I already know that one)? Need reading material.

Somebody just posted what looked like a spoiler on the neighborhood messageboard I moderate, in the thread about meeting up to get the book. It was vague, obvious, and stupid, but I'm still super pissed off. I am going to have to live in a CAVE for the next few days.

I also started lurking in 2000 in HPfGU, posted a little, and I think I might have lurked at PoU, too. I actually went to a meet-up of HPfGU people in March 2001. I remember it because I had broken up with my boyfriend, didn't know many people in NYC, and was looking for ways to meet people. But a lot of the people were from out of town, and it was kind of weird, and the next night (literally!) I met [livejournal.com profile] molanphy at a party. Then I mostly ignored fandom for a couple of years, and got interested again once it became ubiquitous on LJ.

Sometimes I wish I'd gotten more involved with fandom, since I obviously have spent some time on it. I think I'd make a really good beta reader, at the very least. It's easy to get burned in fandom, but I've been doing more real-life stuff online (like that successor site to IB) and I think you get burned worse with that stuff. One of the big reasons I avoided it so long was that it seemed like it would be anathema in the field I was working in. But I also think a big part of the draw was how different it was from that field, particularly getting to read fanfic--it was my own little rebellion.

Oh, there aren't really links - [livejournal.com profile] unanon just mentioned what if Lily inadvertently created a Horcrux or left or a Horcrux and I said that would be impossible - because creating a Horcrux means you have to murder someone in cold blood and then preform dark magic with the severed bits of your soul and I don't see how that could be done a) by accident or b) without murdering someone.

I have seen Harry as Horcrux theories everywhere over the last two years but don't have any links. I can poke around and see what I can find.

I never posted at HPfGU, I think. I didn't start posting until I joined LJ and FA in 2000/2001. At first it was all very weird and I didn't know if I wanted to dive in. Then I did and it took over my life. I was single, in a job I hated, and living with the worst room mate I've ever had. I was so depressed. But fandom sort of bouyed me and gave me a social outlet. I didn't meet David for a year or so after that. :D

How funny that you met your husband the next night! Had he read HP? That was one of the first things I asked David and he said yes and I figured that was a good sign.

Oh, okay. Harry as a horcrux I've seen, too.

I did post at HPfGU, but just a handful of times. [livejournal.com profile] molanphy had read HP, but I didn't admit to having gone to this meetup until much later. Like after we were already married. :P In part, it didn't come up, because I'd been using fandom to entertain me through a dull patch, but I wasn't bored after I met him, so I cut back my lurking to almost nothing for a while.

Yes, I spent less time online in the evening and weekends - but my bosses used to disappear for long stretches of time leaving me with a lot of free time. *cough*

I think you would be an excellent beta reader. Reading fanfic can become overwhelming because there is so much of it and so much of it is really terrible. There are occasional fics that are just so much fun though. I haven't read any in years. I just could not read while in grad school, and I didn't have time during my wedding planning and moving. So who knows what has cropped up in the last three years.

I'm very curious to see what sort of fics come out after the end of canon. Should be interesting.

I'm still wary because I have a ton of my own writing to do and I try to be careful about what I read while writing. Though I do have a YA fantasy (sort of fantasy/sort of psychological mind control) story rattling around in the back of my head. And if I am working on that I can go back to reading as much escapist literature as I want to.
