I have two moms - my stepmom I've known since I was four. She doesn't return my calls and we have problems but I trust her more than my mom sometimes. She e-mailed me a link to an article on cupcakes that was in the times today. Her bouts of thoughtful are sporadic, but they are so deeply relieving and warming. She ignored me most of the summer, but she said she was going to miss me before I left, which is making me cry now. Nothing is perfect. I am incredibly lucky. I read your latest - thank you for posting it. Sorry this is so disjointed. I recommend the nutmeg muffins - they are well worth the hours spent grating, just don't grate off your fingers. It's harder than you'd think.

It has been really nice and sort of healing to hear about everyone's nice moms. (I am sure everybodys mother drives them nuts too!) Because so much of the time all I hear is about the annoying stuff and it is so hard for me keep from saying, "Jeez. at least you have a mother!" I have only actually said that to one friend, because she was a little out of control with her whining. I tried to say it gently, I hope.
