For the last five or six months the majority of my posts have been the little word count meter. I know I've been boring and single minded. So thank you for sticking with me and encouraging me. Without friends like you all I am not sure I could have plowed ahead so quickly. Your support got me through many sticky patches.

I started the writing in earnest on January 31 and finished the ~76k word first draft on April 7. I started the rewrite on April 8 and finished the ~86k word second draft on May 12. I find that utterly mind boggling. I've written like 160,000 words in the last four months. Go me! Of course that is all I have done, eight hours or more a day.

My goal for the next three days is to spell check, read over, and hopefully catch and correct atrocities committed against my mother tongue. Five chapters a day. Three days. Then it gets printed and driven to NYC on Friday morning. *gulp*

I haven't felt this vulnerable in a very long time. I'm terrified that she'll hate it and I'm also worried about the work it still needs if she does like it. But really I've been having so much fun writing and wrangling the details and looking for the right paths that it doesn't matter. I would not have traded the last four months for anything. And if I can't sell this novel it will be OK. I can always get a job if I have to--it just won't be one I love.
