A year ago today David and I drove up from NYC to find an apartment here in Cambridge. (That was the deal we made when we decided I would go to grad school at Sarah Lawrence. We agreed to move back to Cambridge when I was done.)

We looked at four apartments, but while we were waiting for the rental agent to arrive and show us the apartment where we currently live a parade went by. And it wasn't like boy scouts and shriners--it was the Leftist Marching Band, Bikes Not Bombs, and a lot of crazy looking marching bands in drag. We thought it was a good omen. It was.

Today they had HONK! again. No cars, only people on bikes or on foot or on stilts. We walked up to my coffee shop and I took some photos. It was pretty much pure joy and everything I love about this city.

I love this photo and this giant bird puppet was very cool:

I should have taken some video because these hula hoop girls were awesome:

They gave us monies. See?

When you post photos, it is just the most delightful slice of life each time!! I love it. Especially as I really haven't been out East. Well, Buffalo for a weekend, but I feel like I've just missed entirely this chunk of the U.S. But I also just love these glimpses of your life to add scenery to your everyday sort of posts.

:D

My friend Chris is sitting on the funny low wall right next to the coffee shop where I write every day. So it really is a slice of my life there.

Oh you should come here some time. Boston/Cambridge are something to see. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting some historic marker of either the Revolutionary War or from something before that. Plus it is a very thinky liberal city. Lots of bookstores and lots of cafes. Good fish.

Okay, I really really love the green furry bike! Did you get to see what the green fur is made of? Is it just synthetic stuff?

She was riding in circles and laughing. It did look like some kind of fun-fur, yeah.

I can give you the recipe I used, but I thought it was a little meh. I have to get the one my mom and I used to make but it is the Fanny Farmer cookbook and I don't have a copy.

When you post pictures, you make me want to visit even more. Jason's been to Cambridge before (there's a stuffed beaver of his that sits on our downstairs bookshelf), but I've never made it past New York.

Y HALO THAR, I recognize that! I was at Cambridge Common eating brunch when there was surprise!parade.

Also, you're the person with the cats in the window! They make me so happy—I always get that light red when I'm biking.

LOL I walked right past you then before the parade started--but across the street. We took photos from outside Simon's. If you ever come in there and see a 30 something woman with curly brown hair, glasses, a white iBook--it's me, Katie.

Also I got the cats at Paper Source. You can get your own if you covet them--or just keep saying hello to ours. :D
