I've been so down in the marrow of my bones tired that I haven't updated because watching paint dry, etc.

We watched the 1975 version of Escape to Witch Mountain last night. It is seriously awful. I remember being afraid of it when I was like six--it was gripping and dark. There was no bit of dialog that was NOT expository. The entire thing is ridiculous and we felt like we were high when it ended. I didn't realize that Disney is remaking this movie and it comes out in 2009.

Also we stopped in the Harvard Bookstore to see if they had a book David wanted and I noticed a whole stack of my friend Salvatore's book now have "National Book Award Finalist" on them! That is HUGE! We went to St. John's together as undergrads. He did his MFA at Iowa.

I saw the trailer for the remake this weekend. Usually I'm of the mind that stuff doesn't need to be remade, but I think it'll work in this case.

The original film is one that definitely suffered from its sub-par effects, and the urgency of the plot works better as an actual action flick rather than "creepy guy picks up two Children of the Corn and drives them to a mountain in a Winnebago. Also, aliens."

Yeah, exactly. There was NO urgency. I never really felt the kids were in danger.

Oh man, I LOVED the Witch Mountain movies when I was a kid. I saw the trailer for the remake and I think it's going to suck. The originals were campy and not that great, but charming in their own way. The new one looks like one more lame, special-effects-laden plotless piece of crap created mostly to show off all the ways computers can make things appear to be flying around in slo-mo. For godssakes, they even have the "Person gets hit by car, which crumples and then flips over the person" shot. I think 90% of movies coming out these days have that in there somewhere. All they're missing is Tony and Tia saying "I know Kung-Fu."

They are remaking it and it looks like it might be taking itself too seriously.
